Historic York is just 10 miles from our park and will keep you entertained no matter what time of the year (or weather!) with its many attractions, beautiful and historic buildings and shopping and restaurants galore.

  • York Shambles – one of the most popular places to visit. The cobbled medieval streets are full of shops both independent and well known stores. The ideal place to do your Christmas shopping especially as dusk falls in the winter where it becomes even more magical.
  • York Minster – This cathedral is beautiful from the outside as well as inside with regular events and their famous Christmas carol concerts.
  • Walking the walls – the walls circle the city and make you realise how special York is.
  • York Castle Museum – A great day out for the whole family with fun ways for children to learn about various periods in history as well as changing exhibitions and events throughout the tear.
  • Jorvik Viking Centre – Something that everyone must do. The sights (and the smells!) are so realistic you feel like you have taken a trip back in time.
  • National Railway Museum – Little train lovers and big train enthusiasts will love walking around this awarding museum.
  • Cruises on the River Ouse – A great way to see York and also look out for the lunch, fish & chips and evening cruises.
  • York Marina – located just 4 miles south from York City centre where you can hire boats, maybe even purchase a boat and they have a great Waterfront Café Bar.
  • York's Chocolate Story – Buy chocolates, have a tour, learn about the history of chocolate.
  • Yorkshire Museum – Full of historical treasures.
  • York Train Station -  Where a part of Harry Potter was filmed.

York Shambles

SHOPPING

The centre of York is a shoppers paradise not just because of The Shambles but also the many other historic streets and buildings that house the many shops, quite simply a delight to walk around.

A must visit is "The Shop That Must Not Be Named". An independent gift shop on The Shambles specialising in officially licensed Harry Potter merchandise.

Head out of the centre and the York designer outlet is a must. Great deals on all the big designer brands and just an easy 20 minute drive from Wilberfoss Holiday Park.

Walking

WALKING

We are located in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds where you can walk the rolling hills through to lower level walks and walks for all suit all abilities. The 74 mile Yorkshire Wolds Way passes very close to us. You needn’t take on the full route but there are many lovely sections to walk along.

But we’re also not far from the Yorkshire Dales which is always worth a day trip out to. The scenery is more dramatic yet with lots of picture perfect villages, moors, waterfalls, valleys and hills.

Bridlington

THE COAST

Just an hour away and you’ll be on the Yorkshire coast and the famous seaside towns of Scarborough, Bridlington, Filey and Hornsea. What a great location we are situated in where you can visit cities, the Yorkshire Dales and the coast all within minutes. Enjoy beach walks, ice cream and lots of things to do for children.

WILBERFOSS

Wilberfoss is a thriving village with a pub, a restaurant, post office and general store, butchers and also a garden centre. Ideal for supplies when using your holiday home.

Pocklington

POCKLINGTON

The market town of Pocklington is just 4 miles from our park by car or bus (with a stop just outside of the park gates). There you will find independent shops, galleries, a wine bar, deli and cafes. It is a lovely to walk around as well as get provisions.

Beverley Minster

  • Easingwold - 40 minutes away. – A hidden gem of a town close to the Howardian Hills north of York. GReat for fooies with a Georgian market.
  • Beverley - 20 minutes away. – Beverley is delightful market town with a minster, the famous Beverley Racecourse, plenty of independent shops and great restaurants including the new Mowgli. It is a great town for Christmas shopping too.
Castle Howard House & Gardens

  • Castle Howard - 30 minutes away. – Castle Howard House and Gardens described by them as "A place like no other" which is completely correct. It is a place you'll visit time and time again during the seasons with regular events, festivals and exhibitions too and where the Netflix series Bridgerton was partly filmed.
  • Fishing – The East Riding of Yorkshire is great for fishing enthusiasts of all types. There is sea fishing trips available in Scarborough and in our nearby Pocklington Willow Waters Fishery and also coarse fishing.
  • Allerthorpe Golf and Country Park - 8 minutes away - A great 9 hole parkland course on our doorstep lined by mature trees and with a small lake. The clubhouse has all the facilities you need including a modern restaurant and bar with large outdoor seating area, ideal in the summer. Become a member or just pay and play.
  • Sandburn Hall Golf Course - Which has the award winning restaurant Tykes.
  • Whitby Abbey – An imposing structure overlooking the North Sea.
  • Fountains Abbey – A National Trust property near Ripon.
  • Helmsley Walled Gardens – Allotments, orchards, historic walled garden and café.
  • Hazlewood Castle  - The place for a luxury spa experience.
